How to Change a Flat Tire in 10 Simple Steps

Looking to change a flat tire? Take a look at these 10 simple steps from Towing Missouri City and you’ll soon be motoring along the Missouri City roads again.

Before You Start

You should always keep a car jack and wrench in the trunk of your vehicle along with a spare tire. It’s also worth carrying reflective strips and warning cones to help other motorists recognize you’re in the process of changing a tire. Always try to find a safe place to pull over too.

  1. Step 1 – Loosen Lug Nuts. Use the wrench to loosen, but don’t remove, the lug nuts on your wheel.
  2. Step 2 – Connect Jack. Connect the car jack to your vehicle, either in the designated notch or to a flat, strong part of the chassis.
  3. Step 3 – Raise The Vehicle. Use the jack to raise your vehicle until the wheel is 2-3 inches above the pavement.
  4. Step 4 – Remove Lug Nuts. Use the wrench to remove the lug nuts completely.
  5. Step 5 – Remove Wheel. Remove the wheel and place it in a safe place beside the vehicle.
  6. Step 6 – Fit Spare Wheel. Take the spare wheel and attach it to your vehicle.
  7. Step 7 – Replace Lug Nuts. Place the lug nuts onto the wheel so they won’t fall off, but don’t fully tighten them or you’ll face a very real possibility of tipping your vehicle.
  8. Step 8 – Lower Vehicle. Use the jack to lower your vehicle.
  9. Step 9 – Remove Jack. Detach the jack and place it safely out of your way.
  10. Step 10 – Tighten Lug Nuts. Use the wrench to tighten the lug nuts. Store your wheel, jack and wrench, and you’re ready to hit the road.
